![]() The Bridge Club excels as a fun around-the-town commuter and grocery-getter that can also get a little rowdy on some trails along the way. It was never meant to be my full-time touring rig, but it just happened that way. What I didn’t realize at the time was that I’d end up spending more than two years riding and touring on the BC in Michigan, Turkey, Peru, and Colombia. When looking at all of the options, the Surly Bridge Club seemed to tick more of those boxes than any other, and it turned out that I could get my grubby mitts on a size XL, so I went for it. After all, I didn’t know if I’d be back to my trusty T’weed in a matter of months. But most importantly, I wanted something that wouldn’t obliterate my bank account. A SRAM 1x setup would be a nice bonus since I had some spare parts lying around. I was leaning toward a steel frame and wanted it to fit a healthy-sized 27.5” tire along with having all of the necessary accoutrements to mount up racks and bags just in case the need would arise. I was looking for something versatile enough that would be fun for day rides on dirt roads, multi-use paths, and some singe-track. ![]() So, when the one complete bike I had in my possession (a Tumbleweed Prospector) got stranded in Nepal for an indefinite amount of time in March of 2020, I hit up Sean over at The Cub House to see what kind of bike I could get my hands on at the very beginning of the pandemic bike boom. The fact that Premium + was only a few days behind schedule, with the success we all know, seems to agree with me, don’t you think? I know you own a motorbike.I don’t get new bikes very often these days. I feel that there’s a high sense of team spirit, everybody gets along, and projects are carried out with great professionalism but also in good spirits. And I wouldn’t trade them, even for all the gold in the world. It’s the best team in the world! They bring together know-how and life skills. And we’re thrilled it’s doing so well! Long story short. The software, still available on PC only at that time, met with real success, but very few people used the new feature. The players could send boards to each other by email and see how they compared to their friend(s) on the same boards. Very quickly, with Jérôme Rombaut’s arrival, it was decided to release the second version of GOTO Bridge. ![]() Some of their games had already been credited with some success: the online backgammon platform the single-player bridge game for PC GOTO Bridge, crossword, and a few others that I can’t remember right now. Then I quickly joined the “Games” team of the company. I started as Product Manager for Timtel, a Minitel emulator – some may say that this video text terminal and service is the forerunner of the internet – on PC. Which means, at the time of writing, I’ve been working at the same company for 23 years!
